I have  over 30 years of geophysical experience both offshore and onshore.  Previously I worked for MG3 Survey UK for five years, and ran their  technical geophysical operations in the office and offshore until August  2018.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">I\n have led geochemical, geophysical, and geotechnical campaigns in The \nSouth Atlantic, South America, West &amp; South Africa, Northern Europe,\n The Arctic, Morocco, and Canada. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">I\n am an experienced Party chief and Senior geophysicist.  My passion is \ndata, how it is collected, managed and interpreted.  Whilst there are \nmany tools available to do this sometimes they are not specific enough; \nso custom tools are required.  I have written custom data management \ntools using <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.python.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Python<\/a> and <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.lazarus-ide.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Pascal<\/a> so colleagues can rapidly understand and manage data quickly and easily.  I also use <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gnu.org\/software\/bash\/\" target=\"_blank\">Bash<\/a>, and the Dos command line.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Visualisation\n provides a key to understanding the quality of acquired data and can be\n a vital tool for analysing data when problems occur.  Very often these \nproblems are not immediately apparent when using conventional \ntechniques.  Using visualisation techniques very large datasets may be \nassessed quickly and accurately and problem areas identified for more \nconventional analysis.  In addition to development tools such as Python \nand Pascal, GIS is a powerful tool to allow rapid assessment of multiple\n datasets including seismic, bathymetry, sidescan sonar, and other \nacquired datasets.  I have been using <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/sourceforge.net\/projects\/saga-gis\/\" target=\"_blank\">SAGA GIS <\/a>since\n 2013 as this package has a huge number of processing tools and is fully\n scriptable using Python, DOS, or Bash commands so that multiple data \nsets can be analysed or processed in batch mode, dramatically increasing\n processing throughput<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">In  my view good geophysical data should look beautiful.  Beautiful data is  easier to understand.
